#3 Surgery Such as Liposuction or Kybella Injections

Genetic predisposition to double chin can be improved with targeted exercises. Weight loss may or may not be effective in this regard and medical intervention could be required. Common procedures include:

Lipolysis

Lipolysis, or liposculpture, uses either liposuction or a laser to remove fat and refine the skin's contour. The procedure is typically done with only a local anaesthetic needed for double chin treatments. Lipolysis is only effective for fat reduction and cannot improve skin elasticity or remove excess skin. Potential side effects of lipolysis may include:
  • Swelling
  • Bruising
  • Pain

Kybella (Mesotherapy)

In Mesotherapy, a series of small doses of fat-dissolving compounds are injected. In 2015, the Food and Drug Administration approved Kybella, an injectable drug used in mesotherapy. Deoxycholic acid helps your body absorb fats. A maximum of six treatments may be required to treat a double chin, with each treatment requiring at least 20 injections of deoxycholic acid and a break of 1 month between each session.

Dermatologists and doctors with plastic surgery experience are the only qualified individual to administer deoxycholic acid, as its wrong usage can potentially cause severe damage to the nervous system. People may experience certain side effects from using deoxycholic acid and other mesotherapy injectables, including:

  • Swelling
  • Bruising
  • Pain
  • Numbness
  • Redness
