AC Milan defended their 1-0 lead against 10-man Napoli with a goal from Ismael Bennacer in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final.

Despite Napoli getting several chances in the opening stages, Bennacer put Milan in front just before the break and Napoli had a frustrating night, which was capped with Anguissa's red card.

Both sides have recently faced each other in the Serie A, but Milan secured a huge 4-0 win and Napoli.

Napoli started strong in the early minutes of play with a wide header from Giovanni Di Lorenzo, before Piotr Zielinski's smashed the ball from distance, forcing Mike Maignan to tip over the bar.

The 40th minute saw Brahim Diaz break forward with an excellent run, before playing a cross-over to Leao on the right. His cross found Bennacer who scored the only goal in the match. Goalkeeper Alex Meret managed to get a foot but it was not enough to stop the ball from going in the back of the net.

They could have easily doubled their lead minutes before half-time when Simon Kjaer's header from a corner rattled the crossbar.

Unfortunately, the 74th minute turned out to be quite difficult for the visiting team. The referee sent off Anguissa after showing him the second yellow card, just four minutes after his first.

Napoli did not stop testing Milan as Maignan made another save in the final stages of the game, denying Di Lorenzo from close range but Olivera's header sailed over the bar.

AC Milan has an advantage of the goal into the second leg at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona next week
