Two hikers and their cat became submerged in floodwaters today, triggering an emergency reaction in West Cork.

They were rescued after becoming trapped in the floods while camping in Glengarriff with their cat companion.

In an effort to aid them in exiting the sea, Bantry and Castletownbere Cork Country Fire units and the Castletownbere Coast Guard were dispatched to the scene.

Gardai and the Rescue 115 helicopter were also sent to the location.

Thankfully, the team was able to safely extract everyone, and the operation is now over.

According to the Castletownbere Coast Guard, they were called to a Glengarriff incident this afternoon by MRSC Valentia.

Two hikers and their cat were swiftly rescued by Castletownbere and Bantry Fire Brigade Services after becoming submerged in floodwaters while camping.

Rescue 115 helicopter was also sent to the scene but was stood down en approach since the fire department was in control of the situation. I'm happy to report that both the hikers and the cat are in good health. Also acknowledged are the local Garda who attended.
