Massive 55kgs cocaine worth €3.85 million seized at Port of Cork

Cocaine was discovered on a ship arriving from Central America.

This was one of the biggest drug seizures made by Gardaí in recent times from a container ship at the Port of Cork earlier yesterday.

Gardaí has announced seizing 55kgs of suspected cocaine with an estimated value of €3.85m at Ringaskiddy Port, Co. Cork during an intelligence-led operation.

The illegal drugs were found with the assistance of Revenue’s Maritime Unit, drug detector dog Merlin and Revenues Mobile X-Ray Scanner covered in a maritime container coming from Ecuador.

Revenue's Customs Service, and the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau, executed a successful joint operation which resulted in a seizure. Investigations are still ongoing.

This operation was part of Revenue's ongoing joint investigations targeting transnational organized crime and the importation, sale, and supply of illegal drugs.
