Pawel Kosek, a Polish marathon runner, improved on his victory from the previous year at the Cork City Marathon.
The delighted athlete crossed the finish line on Patrick Street in 2:28:24 to a thunderous cork welcome.
He claimed that at times, the heat was challenging. He has participated four times in the Cork marathon.
He remarked, "It was very sunny - not fun!"
Georgie Bruinvels from the UK crossed the finish line first, doing so in 2:42:15.
Pawel, a 31-year-old Pole from Tychy, travelled specifically to Ireland to compete in today's race. After seeing the Lord Mayor, Cllr. Deirdre Forde, who gave him the winning trophy, was eager to celebrate with his family.
Gary O'Hanlon of the Clonliffe Harriers finished in second place in 2:28:58, beating out clubmate Tudor Mircea, who took third.
Grace, a 12-week-old infant, lives with Gary, his wife, and two other young children in their Dundalk home.
In the meantime, Tudor is anticipating the arrival of his next child in five weeks.
Georgie, a resident of Surrey, explained that she chose to participate in the Cork marathon because she has ties to both Cork and Villierstown in Waterford. She claims that while running the race, the famous Cork builder William Henry Hill, whose descendent she is, crossed her mind.
