Two individuals have been arrested in possession of cocaine worth €11.4 million at Rosslare Europort.

The pills were discovered yesterday in a horsebox that had come from Cherbourg, France, to the port.

At around 1.30 p.m., after it had unloaded from a ferry, police from Revenue's customs unit examined the horsebox. During the operation, the officers discovered approximately 163 kg of suspected cocaine.

The mobile x-ray scanner from Revenue as well as Dáith the detecting dog were used in the search.

Two men in their 20s and 30s were detained in connection with the seizure by Wexford-based Garda after they were called to the location.

Under the provisions of Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act, they are being detained in a Garda station in the Wexford district.

Forensic Science Ireland will receive the medicines for additional analysis.

According to a Revenue spokeswoman, the seizure was made as part of ongoing efforts to combat "smuggling and shadow economic activity".

Anyone with information is urged to get in touch with Revenue at the confidential phone number 1800 295 295.

Further investigations are in process.
