Young teenage boy and girl were killed in a car crash in Co Galway

Gardaí and emergency services received an alert of a car accident in Headford, where two teenagers' died and left two others injured.

The accident occurred in the L6127, just off the Shrule road near Glennagarraun and Ballyfruit in Headford County Galway at approximately 5:45 am on Monday morning

Four teenagers, two male and two female, aged 13 and 14, were in a car when the accident occurred. It was the only vehicle involved in the collision

One boy was announced dead at the crash scene. Emergency services rushed 3 occupants to University Hospital Galway and a girl was pronounced dead. At this point, the extent of the injuries of the other two teenagers is unknown.

All four teenagers were students at Presentation College from Headford.

Cllr. Mary Hoade, Chairperson of the school's board of management, said the town is shocked by the accident.

"I am just on my way into the school as the Critical Incident Plan is being implemented. The area is shocked and deeply saddened by the accident. It is dreadful what has happened and our thoughts and prayers are with the families involved. It is unbelievable," she said

The L6127 at Glennagarraun, Ballyfruit in Headford is currently closed. Local diversions are in place as gardaí continues to investigate the crash scene.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward.

Any road users who may have camera footage and be travelling on the L6127 at Glennagarraun, Ballyfruit in Headford between 5:30 am and 6 am are asked to make this footage available to Gardaí.
